Why this exists

In my experience everyone teaches *how* to get clients.

But nobody actually talks about *what* gets clients.

Especially in a crazy time like 2024 when we’re in a “trust recession.”

Maybe you’ve noticed it.

The dollars aren’t exactly gone from the economy, but the people who usually buy from you seem to be fewer and far between.

And when you do get one on the phone, they’re highly skeptical, jaded, love giving you objections, and are highly protective of their purse strings.

Now, you and I both know there are a million different tactics to getting clients out there.

Social, ads, cold outreach, podcasts, longform, shortform, email, JVs, SEO… the list goes on.

And you probably heard half a million really good client-getting tactics during this summit.

Now, while tactics are great and have their place… 

…even the best tactics will fail if you have the wrong strategy.

Here’s what I mean.

People won’t buy from you until they buy into you. 

Meaning that unless you can get someone to first buy into your brand, your company, your vision, your methods, your results…

…it doesn’t matter WHAT tactics you use to get clients — they won’t work.

Hell, in this “trust economy” they’ll barely even get a new prospect’s attention.

And on the slight chance that you’ll do you’ll be met with more of the same sh**ty resistance you’ve been getting on sales calls all year.

  • I just don’t think now is the right time…
  • I’ve been burned before and want to really be sure before hiring someone again…
  • Can you send me more testimonials and results…
  • I’m talking with a number of different providers about this and don’t want to say yes until I talk with them…
  • I can start when I get another client…
  • I just don’t think anybody can help anymore…
  • I’ve done it all and nothing works…
  • You’re all the same anyway…

You can try every tactic there is under the sun to get clients, but you’ll always get these responses from them.

Unless you change your strategy and first build a brand.

THE OLD WAY VS. THE NEW WAY

Old way vs. new way — original huh?

Well, I wouldn’t say this if the newer kids on the block like Alex Hormozi, Alen Sultanic (old timer but newer to the public), Hamza, and Iman Ghadzi weren’t CRUSHING IT by doing things a different way.

While older internet marketing “gooroos” are running their brands from 2018 strategies and are LOSING $500,000 a month but don’t know why.

Allow me to break it down real quick.

The old way is pure direct response — make the words do the selling.

“If I can just find the magic script or the right messaging, it will all work for me.”

And FOR SURE this used to be all you needed.

*Used* to.

But then, more sellers started finding the magic words…

They started “funnel-hacking” and copying each other’s marketing and offers word for word…

Headlines became more outrageous…

Companies started making waaaay too big of promises than could ever be kept (so big the FTC had to step in)…

And the entire effectiveness of direct response plummeted because everyone was abusing it.

As much as I hate to say it as a marketer myself, sometimes we do ruin everything (at least the worst of us do).

And what got ruined the most?

The trust and hope of the people who you want to become your clients.

Now none of them believe the “magic words”.

They’ve already been a sucker for someone with good messaging.

Which actually really sucks if you’re good at what you do.

Because even IF you are good enough you can deliver them “10 dream clients a month on auto-pilot”… nobody in their right minds will believe you because they’ve heard it a thousand times and got burned by it more than once.

All of this has a crazy negative effect on your life and business.

And this cycle repeats… and repeats… and repeats… and repeats…

Until you either give up… or you change strategies.

But what if you did things the new way.

Like Hormozi, Hamza, Matt Gray, Justin Welch, Iman Ghadzi, Alex Becker, and Alen Sultanic.

You can love ’em or hate them, but you can’t argue that these guys don’t stand a head or two above the rest of the market.

Everything they touch seems to turn to gold.

They’re rolling in followers. Their content gets seen millions of times a month. 

If their businesses aren’t growing at a crazy rate now, it’s because they’re full and on a waitlist.

They could quit now and be rich forever.

Each one of these entrepreneurs follows the “new way.”

And they play a different strategy than the playbook from 2018.

What strategy is that?

Each one of them focused first on building a brand.

They didn’t ask for people to buy from them.

They instead asked for people to buy into them.

Buy into their story, buy into their method, buy into their past results, by into their philosophy, buy into their vision.

Which has an almost magic effect.

Because ironically, once you have someone bought into to you, it’s really easy to sell them on something no matter what the tactics.

Why?

Because you’ve already done the hardest part — earning a seat at the table of their decision-making.

Your brand acts like the Trojan Horse to get past their defenses…

They’ll finally give you attention vs. the other guys who are still using the old ways to break down prospects’ defenses.

And once you’ve made it past their walls, you’ll start finding more and more people have already decided to work with you before you even know their name.

And so you start making predictable, scalable cash because…

OK... SO HOW DO I KNOW THIS WORKS?

I know this works because it’s what I needed.

A few years ago, I was making just below $3k/mo doing marketing for a local bank.

Every day I had to wake up put on a button-up shirt, belt up my scrawny waistline in some scratchy dress pants, and squeeze my feet into dress shoes that killed my feet.

All for less than $3k/mo.

It was a low point for sure haha.

I had just shut down my concert business a few moths before. 

And my entire life felt like it was wasting away in a cubicle, waiting for the clock to hit 5pm.

I had told the company I didn’t belong behind a desk. I wanted to go out into the world, network, and help grow the bank in other ways.

But my boss knew I was too good at content, marketing, and branding to be set loose. I was their secret weapon and needed to be chained behind my computer screen, making TV sliders, social posts, and website updates about the new credit card promotions.

I hated it so much that I inevitably started feeling depressed.

I could barely get out of bed in the morning and would roll into the office at 11am, drinking 4 Red Bulls and six cups of coffee a day just to get by.

I’d miss so many hours every week that I’d have to come into the office to work late nights and weekends to make up my “50 hours a week” (the picture of me on the left where you can see me slowly dying inside? That is during one of these late night cubicle sessions)

Want to know the worst part about all this?

It wasn’t that I almost got fired multiple times…

It was that I wasn’t growing a business even though I knew EXACTLY what I needed to do to build my own brand (I was doing it for the bank quite well).

Here was the worst part.

Even though I KNEW what to do… 

and I had the exact skills needed to pull it off… 

and I had built tons of brands for others before…

I never took the time to take my own brand seriously.

That is until 2023.

Go figure, I didn’t last long at the bank. I quit before they could finally fire me and then started my first agency.

But while the agency money was decent, I could barely sleep at night because I knew my business was 100% dependent on referrals.

And if anyone left, I wouldn’t have the slightest clue how or where to find someone who could replace them.

So when my two biggest clients both left at the same time at the end of 2022, I was screwed.

Nah, I’ll be real with you.

I was f***ed.

I went from ~$20k/mo down to $0 of revenue.

With bills, a daughter, a new fiance…

And so in January of 2023 I had to make a choice.

I could either bet on myself to do the thing I do best (but do it for myself first instead of other people)…

…or I could go back to sitting in a cubicle, wearing a button-up shirt, and making FAR less money than I knew I was worth.

So I decided to put in the time to build my brand like my life depended on it. (In a lot of ways it did)

And here’s what happened:

  • I went from $0 to $33k in sales in the first month
  • I started getting invited to speak to masterminds and podcasts
  • I had leads reaching out to me asking if we could work together (versus having to chase referrals)
  • And I started signing high-income clients that could pay $10k+ for what I used to charge on the side for $500

Now my life looks a lot different from the guy working at 8pm in a dingy cubicle.

I wake up early because I want to.

I show up to work in ripped skinny jeans or whatever the hell I feel like wearing that day.

I have the kind of “Dream 100” clients people would KILL for. They value my expertise and pay me handsomely for it.

And I have an amazing loyal audience that feeds me plenty of leads, new clients, and cool opportunities.

I get invited to speak at amazing events like the High Level Expert Summit.

I have a network of 7 & 8 figure entrepreneurs I get to call friends.

I don’t say this to brag or to seem arrogant. I can come off as direct in my copy but deep down I’m a pretty chill dude.

All of this happened because I started to take my brand as seriously — no — more seriously than I did any of my clients.

Instead of neglecting my brand while I ran around putting out fires, I finally put the brand as my priority. 

And it made all the difference (It can for you too).
